The Town Hall organised by The Substation on 6 March 2021 attracted almost 300 attendees.

All of us at The Substation were moved by the community’s strong response to our announcement of The Substation’s closure, and by the spontaneous sharing of what The Substation has meant to each of you personally and to the arts landscape over the past 30 years. We appreciate that many in the community feel that The Substation should continue for as long as it can, in whatever practical iteration, and are grateful that many of you have reached out to us personally or over social media to express your views and to offer support.

We are open to receiving proposals from the arts community, in the spirit of community engagement and our genuine desire to consider and evaluate credible, substantial and sustainable proposals for the continuation of The Substation, that are true to the values of The Substation: to be a safe, creative, non-judgmental space for artistic experimentation and challenging perspectives, open to all.

If you would like to submit a proposal, please reach out to our General Manager Loh Aik Khoon at admin@substation.org for a summary of the content requirements that your proposal should address.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 20 April 2021 (extended till 27 April 2021). We will reach out to you to arrange a discussion after receiving it.

In the meantime, the National Arts Council will take back the building in July, and we will wind down operations and turn the page on 30 years of The Substation’s history, as we say goodbye to 45 Armenian Street, the birthplace and home of Singapore’s independent arts centre. Until then, please come down to support SeptFest and our other events.
