sometimes you make me feel that it is better if i am not here — a site specific installation with live performance presentation by Ezzam Rahman

  • Level 8 Parklane Shopping Mall 35 Selegie Road Singapore, 188307 Singapore (map)

sometimes you make me feel that it is better if i am not here, is a site specific installation that will be activated with a live performative presentation. In this artwork, Ezzam revisits his older works that were presented in Singapore Art Museum for the President’s Young Talent showcase, 2015 entitled allow me to introduce myself, 2014’s SingaPlural presentation entitled you have to know me to love me and an installation artwork for OH! Open House Holland Village in 2017, entitled, you picked what i left behind.

All these works are related to each other in terms of aesthetic presentation, choice of medium but most importantly the similar line of enquiry. Ezzam investigates the ideas of absence and presence in these works and in this forth iteration of the artwork, Ezzam wanted to share his autobiographical experiences in a series of similar gestures and bodily actions.

What are the remnants left behind after something, a situation, a broken relationship has ended? Who attends to these residues that records those events? How does one want to be remembered after it is all over? Will there be a chance of reconnection if the situation is presented? What will decay? What will remain? As the title suggests, the work that he will be presenting highlights the relationship between the body and space.

This is a non ticketed event. The artist will activate his performance presentation on the opening day of the festival.
