What if The Substation didn’t have programmers or an Artistic Director?

To find out, we're going to let a co-operative decide all the programming in February.

Through a process of knowledge building, the co-operative will arrive at their own terms of engagement with regards to how they make decisions, resolve conflicts, and collectively work towards programming a month of activities.

Open Call

The Open Call closed on 11 September 2016.

The Substation is seeking committed individuals from arts and non-arts backgrounds alike who are interested in
being a part of The Co-op, an experimental programme that explores what a co-operative model of arts programming might entail.

About The Co-op

Through this open call, 10-12 participants will be selected to form a core co-operative group together with The Substation’s present Programme Managers*.

This co-operative group will determine their own terms of engagement as to how they will work together, make decisions, resolve conflicts, and collectively work to develop and implement a programme at The Substation in February 2017.

Commitment

Period of commitment: September 2016 - February 2017

Sep – Dec 2016: Research process
Dec – Jan 2017: Confirmation of terms of engagement; planning / preparation of programmes
February 2017: Implementation of programmes

From September 2016 to December 2016, participants of The Co-op should be able to commit to meeting once a week on average. These meetings may take the form of reading sessions, lectures, discussions, excursions, as part of of a process of knowledge-building and determining the terms of engagement as a group.

From December 2016 to February 2017, participants of The Co-op will need to be able to meet and work together as and when would be necessary to implement their intended programme at The Substation in February.

Budget

The Co-op will be given a budget to work with to cover production costs, including that of the labour and time of participants. Members of The Co-op will work together to determine the allocation of this budget, with the assistance of a Guest Producer.
