First Take (monthly)
Launched in 2004, First Take, a free screening of local and international amateur works now happening every first Monday of the month, is a platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in film-making to meet, exchange ideas and show their works. Plus a Q&A session with the filmmakers – submissions are welcome all year round! Download terms and conditions and submission form.
Singapore Short Film Festival (biennial)
Our biannual international short film festival celebrating the independent spirit returned in March 2008. Read up about it here, and tune in for the next round of submissions!
Singapore Indie Doc Fest (biennial)
This event is open to all international and local entries of independent documentary shorts or features. The 3rd edition returns in 2009. Read up about the 2nd SIDF held in 2007 here.
Young Guns International Student Film Festival (revised)
Previously a n annual showcase of international and local student works open to all students not necessarily from film courses. Young Guns is now incorporated into First Take, our monthly showcase of amateur and interesting work. Read up about submitting your entries here.
Reel Revolution (annual)
A six-week programme that challenges youths to create video essays on social issues, Reel Revolution inaugurated in June 2006. With film workshops, exposure talks, mentorship with filmmakers, and a chance to discuss the topic at-length at the Powwow and Immersion. Visit www.revolution.youth.sg for information. Reel Revolution returns in July 2008.
Asian Film Symposium (annual)
Part of SeptFest, The Substation’s month-long festival in celebration of our anniversary in September, the AFS is a platform for dialogue and exchange, with the S-Express Travelling Short Film series from the region, and others.
