For a theatre that is rooted in social realism, characterisation is of paramount importance. Devising theatre involves actors’ input during the initial phase of the process which essentially means time and space to play and explore through hours of creative improvisations. Participants will be given scenarios and they will respond to them in character, thereby discovering and developing their characters and character journeys. Alvin Tan will also share how this workshop is related to the larger process of devising theatre including the making of SINGAPORE, a Singapore Arts Festival commission.
