This drawing workshop imparts traditional elements and principles of art through hands-on activities and an introduction to works created by artists ranging from old school masters to contemporary creatives. The session also prepares the students to develop a strong visual vocabulary.

About the Course
On completion of the course, participants will gain an awareness of the basic skills required to create convincing representational drawings, and be familiar with historical examples and contexts in which these skills have been applied. Participants will also become familiar and confident with materials such as charcoal and drawing pencils. About the Instructor
Tania De Rozario is an artist and writer who has exhibited in Singapore for the past seven years. She is a recipient of the National Arts Council’s International Development Grant, which took her creative and curatorial work to Amsterdam. Tanya teaches Contemporary Contextual Studies at LASALLE College of the Arts, and is currently incubating her literary skills under the National Arts Council’s Mentor Access Project

• Creating form using basic shapes and contrast
• Introduction to chiaroscuro
• Presentation: using tonal contrast to create the illusion of form

Session 3
• Introduction to perspective, proportion and depth
• Presentation: eye level and vanishing point in landscapes and interior spaces
• Drawing practice
Session 4
• Introduction to classical composition, diagonals and the rule of thirds
• Presentation: neo-classical art and current day photography
• Drawing practice
Session 5
• Drawing practice continued and developed
Session 6
• Introduction to contemporary art: the birth of photography and the “death” of painting
• Presentation: Photography and abstract painting
