Introduction to Acting

This workshop is suitable for those who are serious about acting for film and TV and want to develop the essential skills to break into the industry.

Course Fees: $180 (4 sessions)
Dates: 10 May to 31 May 2010, Mondays
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Last day of registration: 6 May 2010, before 8pm
Session One
- Introduction to acting for the camera: Explore the intimate relationship between the actor and the camera
- Relaxation exercises for actors: Specific relaxation exercises that free the actor from any form of stress and burden that will hinder an honest performance
- Actor’s preparation: How to prepare as an actor, be it mentally, physically or psychologically
Session Two
- Improvisation: The importance and magic of improvisation and how to apply it in delivering a truthful performance
- Actor-Director relationship: Fulfilling the director’s vision yet at the same time grow as an actor, ultimately adding layers to make the story come alive
Session Three
- An actor’s tools: Various performing tools an actor can use to deliver a good performance
- Script analysis: How to read the script and go deeper into its subtext
- Characterisation: How to create and mould a believable character
Session Four
- Presenting a scene: Final presentation (in pairs) with evaluation
- How to prepare yourself entering into the industry: Practical tips and advice on breaking into the industry
About the instructor:
Kelvin Sng graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Film Production (Directing major) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic after receiving the Media Education Scheme Award from the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore. His 2005 short film “More Than Words”, a tribute to the late Asian songstress Teresa Teng, has been officially invited to be screened and compete at film festivals around the world including Italy, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, Romania and Africa.
