An intermediate drawing workshop created for those who have already acquired the basic fundamentals of drawing, these sessions will develop these skills further through exercises that utilise media such as ink, colored pastels and a whole new variety of weekly exercises.
About the Instructor
Tania De Rozario is an artist and writer who has exhibited in Singapore for the past seven years. She is a recipient of the National Arts Council’s International Development Grant, which took her creative and curatorial work to Amsterdam. Tanya teaches Contemporary Contextual Studies at LASALLE College of the Arts, and is currently incubating her literary skills under the National Arts Council’s Mentor Access Project
Course Schedule
Session 1
• A re-introduction to self-portraits but this time, using ink and brushes/sticks as a medium, with students drawing from life, instead of from images. With this exercise, student will get a basic feel for the medium of ink and its capabilities in terms of line, tone and texture.
Session 2
• The stylization of images using black and white and the transposition of them onto lino boards. Through this exercise which eventually leads up to a basic introduction of printmaking, students are forced to think about negative and positive space, as well and the simplification of images into linework.
Session 3
• The carving as well as inking of lino boards and the subsequent printing of images onto toned paper introduce a basic printmaking technique to students, bringing relevance to the drawing exercise involving negative and positive space.
Session 4
• An examination of colour using pastels and a method which will find students up to their ears in each others drawings as they move from seat to seat adding to and subtracting from the work of their peers.
Session 5
• An examination of form, speed and visual translation in this introduction to gestural drawing which will find students drawing from a live model.
Session 6
• A free-for-all session which will find students drawing from a live model, using one of more of the techniques learned from the previous 5 sessions.
