A group show of 9 budding artists from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) seeks to create awareness of the various forms of dislocation, displacement and transference from psychological, cultural and social perspectives.
Many issues have arisen with the increasing levels of globalisation and these young artists seek to create artworks with a contemporary take.
The concept of this show derives from the various interpretations of the word “displacement”. For example, the literal dislocation of a human being or living object due to cultural or social reasons is also a form of displacement.
The exhibition is organised by the following criteria:
Social – Shirley Khng is exploring the dislocation of mind, heart and body with regards to the emotional issues arising from abortion and Tew Bee Lan is questioning the dislocation of trees due to human interference.
Cultural – Yu Danya is probing issues of physical dislocation of third-culture kids and the emotional impact on them.
Emotional – Nurul Jannah Naharudin is looking into the transference of her personal expressions of emotions in various media. Rohana Rashid is exploring the fine line between good and evil. Sabrina Leong, Lina and Salihin Jaafar are sharing their viewpoints from that of a child and that of a maid respectively. And Zhou Quan is examining the lives and function of human beings in a society driven by economics.
