This collaboration between Zai Kuning (Singapore) and Vichukorn Tangpaiboon (Thailand) begins with a conversation that attempts to understand the statement ‘The Question of Moral’ on the issues and concerns surrounding ‘art and social activism’.
Vichukorn has been traveling along the Mekong River to learn about the situation of the people living along the river, and worked in Kolantah Island to have a greater understanding of the culture of the Urak Lawoi. Similarly, Zai has been working around the Riau Archipelago in search of the Orang Laut, and to tell the story of the struggle of the Mak Yong troupe (ancient opera of the Melayu) in Mantang Island.
The conversation that began between Zai and Vichukorn will now continue in the mix-media exhibition IMMIGRANT. The exhibition will open with a performance on Thursday 3 November. The relics of the performance will become the installation, which will remain on display until Monday 14 November 2011.
