June’s First Take will prove to be a little more thrilling and mysterious than usual, so come join us if you are up for some twists and chills!

1. VENGEANCE – THE DEATH WISH/ TING SHIN MEI/ 16 MIN/ 2009/ PG

A pregnant woman who is having an affair with a married man, seeks revenge in the afterlife when she gets betrayed by him. She exacts her vengeance on the traitor and those close to him, bringing them to hell.

2. SCOT FREE/ CHIA PEI ZHEN/ 16 MIN/ 2010/ TBA

Two French women, Ariane and Sabine, are on holiday in Singapore and are bored, for want of things to do. One night, an encounter with a drunk German leads to an accidental killing. Their holiday takes a turn for the worse as the women are forced to find a way to dispose the body.

3. DIRECTOR’S CUT/ MAH YING HAO/ 9 MIN/ 2010/ TBA

Student director, Johnny, is on his last day of shoot on a remote island. Unsatisfied with his film’s ending, he stays over for the night, hoping to get inspired. With his girlfriend, Mei, he stumbles upon a sio ba (roast meat) stall and its creepy owner, Jiang, who harbours a deep dark secret that may just give Johnny the ending he’s looking for.

4. CHECKMATE/ MOHD YAHSSIR/ 11 MIN/ 2010/ TBA

An 11-year-old boy meets a solitary old man playing chess and joins him without invitation. As they continue to play on, their conversation takes a more intimate turn and the old man realizes that although his past was unfortunate, there is still hope for the future.
