First Take, happening every 1st Monday of the month, is a popular screening of new local short films followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. A platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. REMINISCENCE / SETH GAN / 11 MIN / 2010 / PG

Reminiscence revisits fond memories the KTM railway, one of the oldest forms of transportation in Singapore. Through accounts of the members of a fan group, we see their fascinations and regrets upon the news of its pending closure.
Seth Gan is attending the SAE Institute Singapore, for his Bachelor of Arts in Digital Film Making, where he also attained his Diploma. As an aspiring local filmmaker, Seth’s passion to reach out to the masses is garnering him a reputation, as a documentary filmmaker whose film speaks close to the heart of his viewers.
IBU / ISKANDAR RAMLI / 7 MIN / 2010 / PG

Ibu is about the unconditional love of a single mother raising a disrespectful teenage daughter. Ibu shows how a mother’s love is taken for granted.
Iskandar Ramli is a third year student in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Design and Media majoring in Video Productions. This is his third short film and aspires to continue creating films that move people’s hearts.
BADI (EVIL INFLUENCE) / KHAIRIHAZWON RAMLAN / 5 MIN / 2010 / PG

Ika tries to get Reena on the right path and not practice black magic, but by a turn of events Ika finds herself on the losing end.
Khairihazwon has previously produced and directed a short film titled DYE.
EVIE / CHONG REN RONG / 1 MIN / 2010 / G

Evie is an experimental short, a portrayal of contrasts and the fantastic. The animation attempts to depict dreams and juxtapositions, the real versus the imaginary with symbolisms of life and death.
Influenced by multiculturalism and a passion for digital art, Ren Rong experiments with mixed media in animation. Her hobbies include collecting children’s books and photography. The fantastic, surreal and uncanny thus are often present in her work.
LAUGHING EYES / JOYCELYN LEE / 11 MIN / 2010 / PG

This is a story about romance. Not the atypical boy-meets-girl kind though. This is a romantic short told in the 3rd party perspective, narrated emotively and empathetically by the girl’s sense of sight as she falls in and out of love. This is a story about love at its best and its worst. When’s the last time someone commented about your laughing eyes?
Joycelyn Lee started out directing theatre plays while pursuing a diploma in Theatre and Arts Management at a local polytechnic. During which, she directed her first short film The Irony. She is currently studying at LASALLE Puttnam School of Film.
AN UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE STORY / DANIEL YAM / 11 MIN / 2010 / PG

Nicole believes in destiny. One day, she bumps into a guy she’s been thinking about for many years….
Daniel was from the pioneer batch of Film Sound Video graduates at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He founded The Creative Room with a former classmate in 2002 and began working on TV programmes and corporate/marketing videos. He was the cinematographer for short films such as Super Dong which was screened at Cannes Film Festival 2007 Director’s Fortnight and 23rd Interfilm Short Film Festival 2007, as well as Madam Chan which was in competition at the Singapore International Film Festival.
