First Take, happening every first Monday of the month, is a popular screening of new local short films followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. A platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. See the future of Singaporean film at The Substation.

MONOCHROME / CHANTEL LI / 9 MIN / 2010 / PG
An aspiring virtuoso pianist with a cherished dream. Slowly, ideals get tempered by reality and propel him in living a safe, albeit conforming existence. Will a sudden loss make inroads into a place where hopes and dreams once abound freely?
Chantel is a finalist for the Panasonic Digital Film Fiesta 2010. She is a film hobbyist working on an upcoming mockumentary.

YOURS TRULY / KEVIN CHAN / 12 MIN / 2010 / PG
Through serendipity, Rachel, a bubbly florist, meets and falls in love with Chris, an introverted photographer. However, Rachel soon discovers she has an eye disease that requires a cornea transplant. In a twisted act of fate, Rachel, who was involved in a near-accident, receives a pair of corneas from the person who saved her. But upon regaining her sight, Rachel soon reaizes that she has lost more than she actually gained.
Kevin Chan began his career as a promotions producer in Singapore, where he won several awards, including a Promax World Gold in 2007. He graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema and subsequently obtained his Master in Film & Television at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) School of Film and Television in Melbourne. Yours Truly is his graduation thesis film.

Vinyl is a journey into the niche market of vinyl records in Singapore and the passion some people have for it. People who would willingly dedicate so much of their time to such an expensive and time consuming hobby, in the pursuit of perfect sounds. A stark contrast to the fast-paced, no frills, digital lifestyle most Singaporeans lead.
Colin Peh is a third year student from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, pursuing a double major in filmmaking and risk management. His interest lies in the language of cinema and cinematography. He has represented Singapore in the 17th Asia Europe Heritage culture exchange program, producing a short film for the 5th Cultural Minister Meeting 2011. He has also workeds as cinematographer on feature films, documentaries, telemovies, and volunteer community projects. His last film, Stargazer was circuited inĀ various international festivals, including India, Cyrus, Canada and United States.

25TH OF LAURA / JOSHUA SIMON / 13 MIN / 2010 / PG
A photographer searches for a mysterious girl through the real world and a place beyond his comprehension. Obsessed with finding the girl of his dreams, he literally pursues her image through the streets of the city, following her all the way to the afterworld and back. Finally, with the help of his camera, he solves the mystery.
Joshua recently graduated from the Film Sound and Video course at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. His film, 25th of Laura, was a finalist at the 2010 Singapore International Film Festival.
