First Take, happening every 1st Monday of the month at The Substation, is a popular screening of new local short films followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. A platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in film to meet, exchange ideas, and show their work. Everyone can participate!

A blind girl finds an unexpected creative outlet through the piano.
Pamela Loh is a student from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, taking her diploma in Film, Sound and Video.
CHANGING COLLARS: MEDIA PRACTITIONERS VS. MEDIA EDUCATORS / MUHD. FARHAN B. ZAILANI / 10 MIN / 2010 / PG

An investigative documentary which challenges the maxim ‘Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach’, in the sphere of media education.
Muhd Farhan B. Zallani is currently studying at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College West.
SWITCH ANGLE / LI LING JUN / 10 MIN / 2010 / PG

A jaded man decides to change his perspective on life and begins to view the world in a different way.
Ling Jun graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Diploma in Multimedia in 2010. She is currently a freelance special effects editor and has worked on a Feature Film, The Ultimate Winner, which is due in 2011.
HOMELESS IN THE HEART / LIM YEW YEE / 11 MIN / 2010 / PG

A long suffering father demonstrates the true meaning of unconditional love on his wayward son who returns home.
Homeless in the Heart was made as part of the 2010 Panasonic Digital Film Fiesta and is Yew Yee’s second short film after Faith and Miracle, 2008.
BALIK KAMPUNG (GOING HOME) / DERRICK CHEW / 10 MIN / 2011 / PG

Balik Kampung tells the story of a boy and girl who meet on the train one day, and discover that they may have more in common than they realize – something to anchor them in the past. Many people say holding on to the past is dangerous. The truth is, why can’t we all hold on just a little longer?
Derrick Chew was one of the top graduates at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Film and Media Studies, and holds a Bachelor’s in Communications. His film, Tan Xin (Conversations), won Best Film at the 20th Singapore International Film Festival and a Special Mention at the 22nd Cinema Jove Festival in Spain. His National Day Parade film, I Pledge, won 2nd Prize at the NDP 2009 Short Film Competition and was screened during the parade.
