The second season of Tribal Gathering of Tongue Tasters kicks off with a stellar collaboration between OrkeStar Trio and Brian O’Reilly. OrkeStar Trio is an exhilarating supergroup that explores the versatility and context of music in the Malay Archipelago, and Brian O’Reilly, is an audio-visual scientist working in fields such as painting, sound/video installation and electronic/noise music.

These two performers will be in residency at The Substation for two weeks prior to the performance, where they will be collaborating and developing their material. Check out their work-in-progress collaboration in the Random Room during these times: Monday 14 May, 1pm – 7pm; Wednesday 16 May, 3pm – 6pm; Thursday 17 May, 2pm – 6pm.

About Tribal Gathering of Tongue Tasters

Conceived and introduced in 2010, the first season of Tribal Gathering of Tongue Tasters presented an array of interdisciplinary collaborative performances centered on the dynamic music landscape in Singapore. The first season featured performances by The Analog Girl, Andree Weschler, Tiramisu, Marla Bendini and more.

In this second season, The Substation plays host to a new direction of performances, where 2 contrasting music acts come together to interpret each other’s work in their own music / sonic languages. The new season also features a two-week residency period for performers held in The Random Room at The Substation.

With each performance presented in 3 acts, including a combined jam, the second season introduces a dialogue session to further engage both performers and audience in the process of their collaboration. The first installment of TGTT II features performances by OrkeStar Trio + Brian O’Reilly. The series is curated by Bani Haykal.

	About Brian O’Reilly  Brian O’Reilly works in the fields of painting/drawing, sound/video installation, moving images/live cinema, electronic/noise music, and he is a contrabassist focusing on uncovering inaudible textures and acoustic micro-gestures thru the integration of electronic treatments and extended playing techniques. Currently he is a lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts, School of Contemporary Music in Singapore & regularly performs solo, and in projects with Curtis Roads, Garth Knox and Zbigniew Karkowski. Also he is a member of the analog modular synth improv group Black Zenith.
	About OrkeStar Trio  OrkeStar Trio embodies the spirit of adventure in exploring the versatility and context of music in the Malay Archipelago in the modern world. Made up of three young artists with unique dispositions, the Trio believes in honoring their traditional influences while pushing towards forming a new spectrum of sound. Their composition features a mash-up of various musical styles, reflecting the diversity of identities and interests among them. In August 2011, the Trio launched their debut album, OST, a self funded project that took approximately a year to produce.
