The Substation proudly presents the third edition of the HAO Summit – a professional development, mentorship and networking ‘retreat’ programme for young arts and cultural workers in Southeast Asia. Around 40 young curators and arts managers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Australia have participated in the last two editions of the HAO summit.
The HAO Summit plugs a gap in the Southeast Asian art scene: recognising that while the arts industry has undergone a boom in recent years, there remain few professional development opportunities for arts and culture workers. Unlike a regular conference, each HAO Summit revolves around a particular concept, emphasising open dialogue, experiential and peer-to-peer learning.
The theme of the HAO Summit 2012 is Culture Sub Culture, and looks at how geographies and landscapes have shaped cultural expressions, and how these have evolved over time, from forgotten moments in history, hidden sites rich in historical and cultural resonances, to today’s urban subcultures. Participants from the first two editions of HAO – the HAO Fellows – have been invited to conceptualise and run some activities in the programme.
HAOcamp @ The Substation
HAOCamp @ The Substation is a freestyle conference platform that brings together folks interested in exploring notions of culture and subculture through art, design, architecture or philosophy! Held in conjunction with the HAO Summit 2012, the HAOcamp is a platform for the public to engage in the summit’s theme – Culture Sub Culture - looking at how geography and landscape has shaped peoples’ cultural expressions and how these have evolved over time. Come present, show-and-tell, dialogue or listen to creative concepts and ideas related to Culture Sub Culture!
The corresponding HAO Summit 2012 is conceptualised by Khairuddin Hori & Audrey Wong and presented by The Substation. Learn about the HAO Summit at www.thesubstation.org/hao-summit-2012/.
