“De Change” is a play set in the 1990s when economic tension is high and anxiety fills the air; a time where hopes and dreams dwindle. The story primarily revolves around Choon Huat, a woman in her early twenties. She is a second-rate actress who struggles to keep her dream of being a famous actress alive despite all odds. Choon Huat comes from a broken and poor family, her mother suffers from bronchitis and her good-for-nothing brother, Ah Soon, gambles away what little she brings home.  In no time, her brother becomes heavily indebted. Unable to repay what he owes, Choon Huat is forced into prostitution to clear the debt. At the same time, she is betrayed by her best friend, May, when May gets together with the love of her life, Ming Jie. Depressed and desperate, it is not long before she contemplates suicide.

When it seemed like all hope was lost, an unexpected twist in the story occurs. And she finds herself presented with an opportunity she cannot resist – a trade-off that can make her dreams come true. However, in exchange, she must give up something that is most precious to her. Thinking that she has nothing left to lose, she agrees to the barter. Indeed, she gets what she has always dreamt of, but at the end of the day, is it worth the change?
