CAST MEMBER: JEFF GREEN

‘One of the greats of pure laugh-out-loud comedy’ – Herald Sun (Melbourne)

Award-winning British comedian Jeff Green has become a well known face and voice on Australian TV and radio since arriving for his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival performance here in 1996. Amongst his many Australian TV credits are Spicks and Specks (ABC), Good News Week (TEN), The Glass House (ABC), World Comedy Tour (The Comedy Channel) and The Squiz (SBS) and as well as  numerous appearances on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala (Ten). Jeff is also a regular radio contributor on Hughsey and Kate (Nova), The Conversation Hour (ABC), 3AW, Vega and ‘Comedy Bites’ (ABC).

“Amazingly appealing and hands-down hilarious” – The Sydney Morning Herald

Since quitting the heady world of Chemical Engineering to follow a hunch that he had more to offer show business than Industrial Gases distribution Jeff has performed at theatres, events and festivals all over the world. Now an Australian resident (he has an Australian wife, some have accused him of social climbing but he disputes that), Jeff brings over 20 years of V, stand-up experience to his festival shows. Hugely in demand in the UK and Europe Jeff’s stand-up comedy background is impressive: A solo West-End season and three full length UK TV comedy specials – Jeff  Green Live (ITV), Jeff Green – Up West (ITV), and Jeff Green Comedy Store Special (Channel 5). Jeff also owns a caravan, which he bought on e-bay.

‘That innocent twinkle gives way to a wicked gleam… His insights into relationships are hilarious and true’ The Independent Weekly (Adelaide)

Jeff is a best selling author with his books selling over 300,000 copies. His first book reached No 5 in the Sunday Times Bestseller list. He has been translated into several languages including Polish, Portuguese, Finnish, Serbian, Spanish and Klingon (just checking you’re still reading). Jeff also writes a monthly column for The Readers Digest.

‘Pin-sharp comedy beautifully delivered is the trade-mark’ – The London Evening Standard

CAST MEMBER: JOSH EARL

“A child of the modern age, he’s in touch with all the modern zeitgeists (Facebook, Emo kids, op-shop T-shirts, raunchy chart-pop)… He knows he’s cute, knows he’s funny, has every right to be slappably smug, but pulls it off with such precocious style that you’ll want to give him a warm hug by the show’s end. Fans of Flight Of The Conchords take note: this kid has potential.” Kerrie Hickin, The Age, 22 Apr 2009

“I loved [Josh Earl], full of witty songs, sly pop culture references and just plain funny jokes. From correcting punks on the grammar printed on their clothing to telling his old high school’s graduating class they are lucky to have not lived in the dark days of researching reports on Encarta, he is razor sharp. Earl is a brainy comedian who’s not afraid to throw in a crass joke when his material is getting too clever.” Gemma King, The Pun, 8 Apr 2009

“To find a comedian that has you laughing the entire way through a show is hard. To find one that you could happily sit through another hour of is almost impossible, but he managed to do just that. Take your mum – or your teenager! Final Word: Delightful.” Bridie Toomer, Rip It up (Adelaide) 4 Mar 2010

Josh Earl is a hip, sharp, loveable musical comedy star in the making. Moving through the ranks, having supported Rod Quantock and Arj Barker in his first couple of years, he now sports five genuinely sold out solo Festival shows under the belt he wears on his skinny rock’n’roll jeans.

His most popular offerings have been Josh Earl is a Librarian, which toured through Adelaide and Melbourne, offering an insight into his sedate former dayjob, and his current show, Josh Earl vs. The Australian Women’s Weekly Cake Book, currently touring through Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne, and appearing as a huge highlight of the 2010 Comedy Festival Opening Night Spectacular on Network Ten.

Josh also writes and performs the Lime Champions sketch show on Melbourne radio Triple R and has appeared on Triple J, ABC Local Radio 774, Stand Up Australia (comedychannel) and the Laughapalooza DVD.

CAST MEMBER: JUSTIN HAMILTON

Justin Hamilton has carved out an incredibly successful career as a stand up comedian and writer while maintaining his unique voice within the Australian Comedy scene.

A regular guest on television and radio has seen Justin expand his popularity and following.  Whether it is as co-host of Triple M’s weekend breakfast team Toast alongside Charlie Pickering and Terri Psiakis which Justin did up until 2009, or regular movie reviewer for Perth’s number one rated Mix FM, he has brandished a unique voice in the radio landscape.

Not content with standing still, Justin has allowed his desire to push the boundaries take their full flight at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and beyond.  In 2009 year he wrote and starred in “Goodbye Ruby Tuesday” a play that Aussie Theatre Review stated was “…intelligent and surprising storytelling” while the UK based site Chortle claimed it was a “…touching story as warm as it is witty, building delicately to a satisfyingly uplifting conclusion.”

Justin has not only sold out numerous solo seasons at the Adelaide Fringe and the Melbourne Comedy Festival but also won awards and nominations to go along with them.  He won the 2007 Melbourne Comedy Festival Director’s Award for his show “Three Colours Hammo”, a show that also won the Adelaide Advertiser’s best show award at the 2008 Adelaide Fringe.  His 2008 stand up comedy show “The Killing Joke” was nominated for best show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival that year.

He has toured Australia as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow from 2002 to 2008, taking the last year off to concentrate on radio.  He has also supported Wil Anderson on his national tours from 2006-2009.

An unforgettable performance… his jokes are intelligent, witty and very entertaining. You should not miss this. Absolute stand out.” Adelaide Advertiser 2008

“Hamilton’s style is easygoing, conversational and he is genuinely funny ” Adelaide Advertiser, 2006

“A fluent and unique delivery coupled with delicate material makes this a special hour” The Age 2005

CAST MEMBER: SAM SIMMONS

Sam is one of the most daring and unconventional comics in Australia, completely original and vastly absurd, he has one foot firmly planted into the soils of reality, and the other rooted deep into the psyche of being silly.

Sam is a multi award winning cult figure within the Australian comedy scene.  He has collected awards and glowing reviews, and played to sell out houses with his solo Melbourne Comedy Festival shows Tales of the Erotic Cat in 2006, The Sex & Science of Boredom in 2007, Where Can I Win a Bear Around Here? in 2008, and Sam Simmons In The Net Starring Sandra Bullock in 2009. “*****” The Age 2007

Joyous on the radiowaves, Sam has made Triple J his own.  2008/09 has seen him at the helm of the Weekend Breakfast Show as well as weekday Breakfast and Drive Shows and he is now a regular contributor across the station. Spreading further into the ABC, Sam is now a regular on JTV as a host, as well as creating his own sketches and interviewing the latest bands. In 2008 Sam filmed an interstitial comedy series for the ABC, The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote, which screened in 2009.  In that same year, he made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his solo show ‘Problems’ and received rave reviews. Alongside his comedy, Sam has worked within animal enrichment at the Melbourne Zoo with Elephants, seals, reptiles and small native mammals.

Quite simply there is no one else quite like him in the comedy world. Sam is the comic other comedians got to see.

***** Welcome to the most absurdly crazy world orbiting the Fringe, featuring some of the most original comic concepts and laugh out loud moments of any Edinburgh show in the past 20 years” The Herald, UK

***** Simmons is a wide-eyed, frantically energetic stage presence. ‘Problems’ made me want to leap to my feet and scream “Genius!” in an outrageous French accent” Three Weeks, UK

***** When held against the rules of comedy super stardom, Simmons is a lawless gent indeed. Through laughter he will seduce you into his dinky, intimate underside… If you’re looking for the best of the truly transgressive fest, Erotic Cat should be on your hit list.” The Age

****…it’s a cult in the making” Scotland On Sunday
