This is an InHouse event

Reception: Thursday 7 July, 7pm

An Exile Revisits the City is a series of artworks that explore the construction of history and identity through photographic installation. The series will feature an exile who returns to his homeland (Singapore) after a long absence from it. This installation will act as a travelogue of the exile’s journey around the city and examine the relationship between national monuments/architecture and history.

The photographs will employ Caspar David Friedrich’s Rückenfigur approach to art. It will feature the exile at various places in modern Singapore in contemplation of the landscape or architecture. How does he reconcile the past with the present? Is this place still his home? Through the exile’s visits to these sites, the artist hopes to explore what these places symbolise to the Exile and the ideas/ideals that these places represent in Singapore’s history.
