Motionless City – Wassachol SirichanthanunThailand / 2009 / 11 min
 
➞ Synopsis: A Thai girl who was born elsewhere, returns to Thailand, for some unknown reason, only to find that perhaps Bangkok is not the
place for her.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Wassachol Sirichanthanun is a sophomore at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication (English program) of Thammasat University. She lived in Czech Republic in 2007 for a year, as an exchange student. This inspired her to make the Czech-speaking short film called Motionless City, which got into the final round of the Special White Elephant Award in the 13th Thai Short Film & Video Festival in 2009. She is currently working on small video and short film projects, as well as learning to make a feature.

The Suffering of Mr Karpf – The Birthday (Die Leiden des Hern Karpf – Der Geburtstag) – Lola Randl

➞ Synopsis: It's Mr. Karpf's birthday and nobody phones him. There is probably something wrong with the phone.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Lola Randl studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne for six years, specializing in film. In 2006/ 2007, she received a scholarship for script writing from the Munich Screenplay Workshop. Since 2003, Lola has directed 4 short films and a feature. The Suffering of Mr Karpf is part of a series, which Lola is continuing to develop.

Old Heart – Anocha Suwichakornpong
Thailand / 2009 / 8 min
 
➞ Synopsis: Wat Chaiwatthanaram in Ayutthaya, Thailand—the ruins of a Buddhist temple. Tourists roam the ancient structures, their foreign bodies out of step with the place. They take pictures.
A Thai woman navigates the environment, feeling the brick
and stone with her hands. The sun is their witness. The past, present and future of Thailand (and the filmmaker) are reflected upon through the history of its land.

➞ Director’s Bio: Anocha Suwichakornpong spent the nineties living in England, where she received her Bachelor and Master of the Arts. In 2006, she graduated from a Master of Fine Arts film program
at Columbia University, New York. That same year, Anocha attended the Berlinale Talent Campus. Her thesis, Graceland (2006) became the first Thai short film to be included in the Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival. Her first feature Mundane History (Jao Nok Krajok, 2009), was selected for competitions at Pusan International Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam. She is currently working on her third short film.

Lucky Girl – Alexandra Guinanis

➞ Synopsis: Some moments seem insignificant at the time they occur. However, we are sometimes haunted by what our lives could have been if circumstances had been different. Lucky Girl
recalls one such decisive moment, when everything could have been changed.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Alexandra Grimanis completed her studies in film production at Concordia University in 1997. She is the co-founder of the production company Stone Lily Pictures, as well as an independent filmmaker. She has directed films such as Mothers of me (1999), Blue Grass Stars Baby (2004), RH Factor (co-directed with Steven Woloshen) (2007) and Lucky Girl (2009). She has worked at Main Film, an artist-run center for independent filmmakers in Montreal.

Was Mount Fuji Really There?

➞ Synopsis: After having a dream of her dead brother who died about ten years ago, filmmaker Lee Mi Sa follows the traces of the dream to Japan, wishing that she could remember him.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Lee Mi Sa was born in South Korea, 1986, and graduated the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008 with Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She has since done five experimental short pieces, under the Half Elephant collective. She is currently working on her documentary in Korea.

Lipstick (Gincu) – Agnes Christina

➞ Director’s Bio: Agnes Christina’s first film was a documentary on the elderly in Chinatown, entitled Forget-Me-Not. She is currently trying to do a short fictional story.

The Return – Tulapop Saenjaroen

➞ Synopsis: The Return is an attempt to recall lost memories. The monologue was written and performed by the director, playing his father who had passed away 17 years ago.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: As a young boy, Tulapop Saenjaroen enjoyed drawing, writing, and puppetry. He found that utilizing art media to express himself as a young skeptic, made life more enjoyable and meaningful. His big break came in 2005, when his short film, Sad Scenery won a special mention award at the 9th Thai Short Film and Video Festival. Tulapop now works with various mediums such as video, film, writing, performance, and more. He lives in Bangkok and works at Electric Eel Films.

➞ Synopsis: A Tale of Heaven: Cinema Forest tells the story of a man
who lost his father.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Phuttiphong Aroonpheng studied at The Digital Film Academy of New York. In 2007, the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum and Irish Museum of Modern Art supported his film, We All Know Each Other. Later, his short film Our Monument won the Vichitmatra Award at the 12th Thai Short Film and Video Festival. Phuttiphong’s films have been screened at both international film festivals and art exhibitions, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2009, Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Interfilm Berlin Germany, Escape Art gallery England and Silverlens gallery Philippines, to name a few. His recent film, Departure Day, won the award for script development in the Asian Cinema Funds (ACF), Pusan South Korea.

Sayang – Daniel Hui (WORLD PREMIERE)

➞ Synopsis: A personal rumination on love and loss, using the images and sounds of famous movies. Just as, in movies, we see through another's eyes, hear through another's ears, this film stands
as an experiment to see if we could also speak through
another's mouth.
   
➞ Director’s Bio: Daniel Hui is a filmmaker and writer. His films have been screened at film festivals in Rotterdam, Hawaii, Manila, Seoul, Bangkok, and Vladivostok. He is one of the founding members of 13 Little Pictures, an independent film collective whose films have garnered critical acclaim all around the world. He is currently pursuing his degree at the California Institute of the Arts.
