Synopsis:
When a young girl is accidentally left behind at a desert gas station while on a road trip with her large family, she must finally find the courage to make her voice heard.

2) Reflections

Ho Tzu Nyen / 2007 / 14min / Singapore / PG

Synopsis:
Based on a story by the 19th century Greek writer Lafcadio Hearn, who settled in Japan as Koizumi Yakumo, this film is a parable about how man is a creature that perpetually cannot see beyond his own reflection.

Director’s Bio:
Ho Tzu Nyen is an artist and filmmaker. His previous works include “Utama – Every Name in History is I” (2003), “4 x 4 – Episodes of Singapore Art” (2005), “The Bohemian Rhapsody Project” (2006), which won The Jury Prize at the 44th Edition of Pris de Courts, the International Short Film Festival in Paris, as well as the Special Mention at The Vienna Independent Shorts, 2008. His commission for the National Museum of Singapore, “Sejarah Singapura” (2006) won the Silver Medal for MUSE awards.

His works have been shown in film festivals and art exhibitions such as the Sao Paolo Biennale (2004) 3rd Fukuoka Triennale (2005), KunstenFestivaldesArts (2006 and 2008), Singapore Biennale (2006), Bangkok International Film Festival (2004), Hong Kong International Film Festival (2006), International Short Film Festival of Oberhausen (2007 and 2008), Curtas Vila do Condo Film Festival (2007), Seattle International Film Festival (2008), Jeonju International Film Festival (2008), etc.

3) Naissance d’un objet (Birth of an object)

4) Fleeting Images

Edmund Yeo / 2008 / 10min / Malaysia / PG

Synopsis:
“One day, I received an email from him…” A young woman narrates a series of letters from an old friend meditating on time, memory and mortality. He is seeking life’s meaning throughout his travels in India and Japan, but ends up finding beauty in some fleeting images of everyday life that he had previously overlooked.

Part documentary, part travelogue, maybe a love letter.

Director’s Bio:
Born on the 6th of March, 1984 in Singapore, Edmund Yeo started writing and directing
short films in 2008. “Chicken Rice Mystery” won two awards at the BMW
Shorties 2008 in Malaysia and premiered at the 6th Dubai International Film Festival. “Love Suicides” was selected for competition at the Paris Cinema International Film Festival, the Festival Internazionale del Cinema d’Arte and the Split International Film Festival. His Japanese short film “Kingyo” will have its world premiere at the 66th Venice International Film Festival.

He was also producer and editor for numerous productions like the award-winning films “The Elephant and the Sea”, “Days of the Turquoise Sky” and the upcoming “Woman on Fire Looks for Water”

5) Adsurbism01

Mux (collective) / 2009 / 5min / Singapore / NC16 (Some sexual references)

Synopsis:
“Adsurbism01” is an experimental project incorporating poetry, spoken word, music, sound design, foley, video and photographs, all this in hopes of narrating a story of an absolutely miserable man having a very, very positive view on life.

Director’s Statement:
The form surrounds adsurbism is still in its early process and currently only exists as documents such as sound and visual to relay the protagonist’s very optimistic perspective on a life without tragedy, just a chockfull of hope for death, the beauty of hesitations and good music in the future

Director’s Bio:
Mux is a collective formed by Bani Haykal, Luqman Hakim and Siraaj Anwar, out to experiment and device new performances weaving sound design, music and text.

6) Minitrip

 

Jean-Michel Vovk / 2008 / 15min / Belgium / M18

Synopsis:
A small chronicle diverted of an announced disaster or condensed Odyssey in a burlesque drama. Minitrip, this is the chaotic course of the Albanian National Team of Bowling lost in spite of it in Brussels the interpole of clandestine. Moonlighting, prostitution, very ordered charity, police psychology... the hell of Brussels is paved of good intentions.
